How Miss Sailin Started
It all started with my grandma's old sewing machine, a Singer 301A, and a used boat sail that was going to be thrown away. Instead of disposing of the sail I decided to try making a few nautical themed bags for my family, friends, and if anything was left, for myself. The first bag was a simple tote, then I started learning how to add different handles and zippers to eventually create some of the designs that I'm selling today. All of the used sails I work with are from the West Coast, majority from Southern California. Every sail is washed, but some stains remain which gives it even more unique character that you just can't create. I hope to continue upcycling sails to not only make useful eco-friendly bags, but to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills. Thanks for reading my story and I hope you find the perfect bag for you!
